 Excellent for building a foundation July 26, 2010

I work with VMware on a regular basis and wanted to prepare for an upcoming VMware Fast Track class. I read this book and it did an excellent job in providing a foundation for my learning. I didn't find any glaring errors and the explanations were pretty straightforward and easy to follow. If you're going to take the VCP test, I don't think this should be your only study resource, but it will definitely provide you with a solid background in VMware vSphere.

This is a great book to have on your desk or to learn a great deal about deploying vSphere 4. I think "mastering" goes a little far but I am by no means degrading the quality of this book because it has mastering in the title. The book flows well and speaks to you like you are indeed just starting out with a new deployment! If you need a "first" book looking to learn vSphere 4, you cant go wrong with this one!

It's down to earth, it explains the hows and whys pretty well, but it also acts as a great reference and "HOWTO" for many tasks. I used it extensively to build up my knowledge and pass my VCP 4 test. But I continue to use it as a reference on many topics. If you are looking for VSphere 4 knowledge, start with this book.
