Roasted by critics but surprisingly tenacious at the box office, White Chicks is the kind of comedy that thrives (well, maybe) on home video. Faint praise indeed, but it allows comedy fans an opportunity to cut the Wayans brothers (costars Marlon and Shawn, and director-cowriter Keenen Ivory) some slack and at least try to answer the obvious question, what were they thinking? For the sake of charity, let's ignore charges of reverse racism that plagued this would-be comedy about a pair of FBI agents (Marlon and Shawn) who go undercover as over-privileged white debutantes to thwart a kidnapping scheme, and let's allow that comedy--not social satire--is the Wayans' top priority. If you can get past the fart jokes, the freakishly unconvincing "white chick" makeup, seemingly endless gags about "white chicks" getting hit on by lusty black guys, and a plot that really doesn't matter at all, you just might find a laugh or two in the Wayans' attempt to understand women through a bit of friendly gender reversal. Tootsie it's not, but at least White Chicks offers more entertainment that Nicky and Paris Hilton, who partially inspired the story. Just ask yourself, which freak show do you prefer? --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars Funny, stereotypes and all.   October 4, 2008
D. Paul (Maryland, USA)
A very funny video, with all the typical stereotyping, from women and clothing fitting, lactose intolerance, to the parodies of the rich society girls (i.e. Hilton sisters) are hilarious. Some may find some of the crudity of flatulence rude, but it works in a cheap way, and in reality its part of human qualities,, and human existence. So laugh, because its funny.

2 out of 5 stars Incognegro   July 27, 2008

Role-reversal, gender bending comedies are hardly original, but in a truly enlightening and entertaining edition, there is typically a cultural, sexual, or stylistic lesson. In White Chicks, however, there is nothing redeeming or worthwhile whatsoever.

Bumbling, sibling FBI agents (Shawn and Marlon Wayans) go undercover by putting on rubbery body padding, off-white paint, and contact lenses to become the Wilson sisters (a copycat movie portrayal of the Hilton sisters). Apparently the Wilson sisters are mutants, transvestites, or perhaps hermaphrodites who look like Tori Spelling. Either way, their appearance is as ridiculously unconvincing as the Wayans' brothers acting. All that said, and there's no need to even go into the fact that neither of them acts feminine in any way, making the premise even more pathetic. The fact that their friends don't even notice that the Wilson sisters transformed from beautiful, thin, young women into gawky, masculine, drag queens is outrageous, and a reason to simply ignore the rest of the movie.

Even before seeing the movie you know the script. Insert lame racial joke here, act out clichéd stereotype there. Rich chicks can't make it to the Hamptons for whatever contrived reason and the Wayans step incognito as replacements. I think it goes without saying, but just in case there was any doubt, there is definitely a dancing scene where people can't believe the white chicks can break it down so well.

At best it's nothing more than unfunny garbage. Instead of this drivel the Wayans should have worked on the next Scary Movie sequel.

Enjoyed watching this movie without commercial interuption. It was better than watching it on cable. I am a big fan of the Wayans Brothers, since In living Color.
