Final fantasy tactics, with a twist! July 14, 2010 poppa D I picked this game up about 4 weeks ago mainly for the story because i watched the anime. the story so far follows the anime but the gameplay is also pretty nice if you are into final fantasy tactics. it can be addictive at times, which in my case the first day i spent ~ 12 hours straight playing it, also for people who never heard of Disgea the story is hilarious and its pretty good. The only set back is hours and hours of grinding having to level your weapons/armor or your character but it does take thought to play in other words if you cant tactically maneuver your characters you will suffer a horrid defeat and death is not an option; when your party dies you have to load from your last save point which if you are like me you are fine but if you tend to forget to save well it could be something very regrettable. The game is fun but can be repetitive I'm playing off and on so I don't end up hating it, thats the only thing at the moment that I'd remove one star.
Also for those who may lose interest if they read the anime and think they shouldn't play ill say this theres a secret Etna mode that can be unlocked so it maybe something to look forward to if you are a fan.
Upload in PSN May 6, 2010 T. Kondo I get this game on PSN, the same price at Amazon. I would rather have picked it here, to have the manual and stuff, but ok...
About the game, very addictive, very funny, and depth background. If you never played before I recommend! For sure it worth the try!
The Greatest JRPG Ever, PERIOD! February 21, 2010 C. Marsh (Sacramento, CA) I picked this up on a whim at the Playstation Network Store because I got a PSN Card for Christmas. It was only (...) (Still is btw) and I was told it would keep me busy. Has it ever! Besides being absolutely hilarious and filled with memorable characters the gameplay is everything I could want in an RPG and more. My previously favorite RPG, Final Fantasy V, had character classes and the ability to mix and match but Disgaea takes that above and beyond. You have you main characters and then you have the ability to create an entire army of soldiers to assist you! It's like Final Fantasy tactics but much more indepth and insane. (You can create robots, dragons, catgirls, you name it) There is also next to no grinding and you have the ability to make the monsters stronger or weaker at any time. (ranging from an absolute joke to please-kill-me-now impossible) There are also tons of secret bosses and multiple endings depending on how you complete the game (Don't kill any of your members of you'll cry at the end!). The actual gameplay is addicting as well, Tactical RPG with a chessboard-like area battles with little bonus panels called Geo Panels to make things interesting. The music is pretty catchy too and adds a lot of atmosphere to the game. Overall, if you even remotely like RPG's or are in mood for a game that isn't affraid to make fun of itself and have a good time, I definitely suggest getting this one!
Pros:
Amazing characters, dialogue and voice acting (English dub isn't half bad either)
Flawless character creation and customization
Endless gameplay with multiple endings and difficulties for various kinds of gamers
Cons:
Hard to think of really, maybe a lack of DLC?
Perfect, perfect, perfect August 24, 2009 G.G. Benson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had this game for the ps2 and I loved it. Of course there were some downsides to being stuck in my room with a strategy rpg in which it takes a good little while to get anything done. This remake of the game for the PSP is a perfect port, or whatever it is you wish to call it. Having it portable so that you can pause for an indefinite amount of time, not worry about it, pick it up and then finish what you were doing, even if it is a week later--not to mention that this is possible anywhere you happen to be--has to be the real way that this game was intended to be played. It's marvelous.
Addictive as hell April 8, 2009 Ed-kun (Salem, OR USA) Probably one of the best games I've played in years. The PSP version of Disgaea features everything that made the original so amazing, plus plenty of bonus features not found anywhere else. (At least, anywhere other than the DS version, but more on that in a bit)
As for getting your bang out of your buck, i'm not sure you'll ever find a better deal. Disgaea on PSP has enough content to easily last you hundreds of hours of gameplay. It might be a bit repetitive to some, but for fans of strategy RPGs, this game is worth every penny!
Last, I'd go so far as to say this is the best version of Disgaea available. While it doesn't have the playable Plenair character found on the DS version, it does have everything else. In addition, it also looks and sounds a hell of a lot better than it does on DS. (Not to sound like a Sony fanboy, but i've tried it on DS. The game does not look good, and the audio grates on my ears) That said, you're getting the best in video and sound as well as getting the vast majority of extra content available in any Disgaea (1) version.
