Good - but not great. 7/10 November 13, 2007 B. Clarke (Kamloops, BC) I'd place this game on a par with Ridge Racer. The graphics are appealing, but frankly the PSP can do better - and has on games such as Burnout or Wipeout. The music is a mixed bag. A few of the driving tunes are rocking, but some are downright annoying. The steering controls are a bit sloppy, but you can make do. Overall Outrun is good, but not great. If you just want some simple minded arcade style racing, Outrun will do the trick.
Awsome game July 17, 2007 James T. Homer (In the desert) Awsome graphics, fun to play, hard to put down. Cars look great!! Definately a must have for the PSP!!
Outrun 2006 PSP review May 13, 2007 Andrew D. Bremer This is a perfect port of the PS2 game. It is a very unique formula for a racing game, in which you continue to different areas without stopping. It gives the feel of an adventure-racing game. There are 30 tracks, 15 new ones and all the tracks from Outrun 2 for the X Box. You can play the original Outrun 2 game, or a mission mode where tracks from the 2 games are combined in a series of races. There are plenty of unlockable Ferraris and song tracks, even the original arcade music, as well as arranged versions. A polished arcade style driver, with beautiful scenery and crazy power sliding. A great tribute to the original.
Exciting, but a few flaws January 10, 2007 Aaron S. Lee Great game to have in your PSP collection. Fun game to pick up and play. It even includes the gameplays from the arcade versions of Outrun. Alot of unlockables forces you to keep going further into the game. Although this game does tend to get repetitive when trying to unlock cars. great fun, but lacks somewhat creativity. don't expect too much more than the arcade versions, but still should keep you hooked for a while.
Arcade racing on the best system December 6, 2006 M. Warren (Iowa) I don't think that this is really worth playing on the bigscreen. Arcade racers are slowly fading away for overly technical, confusing, hard racers such as Forza that take too much time to complete. These games are just fun, there's no worrying about tuning your car, and there's no boring race tracks where you race across totally generic race t racks that you wouldn't pay a dime to see in real life. Just put it in, turn it on, and race race race!!!!!! On the PSP, it's a great racing game. On the go, you really don't have time to tune your car and race through long championships like you would at home. YOu want a game that is, fast, easy to play, and is fun but engaging enough to keep your attention (Im talking about great games like Lumines and GTA PSP, which GTA PSP is great to just drive around and kill for ten minutes). This game is a great game for racing fans who yearn for the days where you drove around those fantasy tracks and raced around the world. THis game has those days. For starters, this game is a little slim on content, but that's just fine. THere's more than enough modes to keep you busy. The classic Outrun gameplay is intact, where you go through five seperate stages to an endpoint. There's no customizations either, so I repeat that, so go somewhere else racing buffs. The impress your girlfriend mode is also here, and that's about it. Sure, seems a little slim, but the racing can stand on it's own. Plus, the tracks are a real treat, as there are no repeated. Ever got a racing game that gives you similar tracks? Yeah I hate those too. The fact is that the tracks are all different enough to be seperate, and with thirty stages, the game definitly offers variety. DOn't expect to find a recreation of Miami like GTA Vice city, the cartoonish look is intact, but it's actually pretty damn good looking. SOme of the tracks sport different looks. They are all based on different locations, such as Machu Picho, Easter Island (complete with those statues), even a Blair Witch Project inspired forest. It's all great stuff, not realistic, but fun. You won't find any building you can drive into, but who needs that.= Building interiors aren't really seen dyring this generation (Full Auto though, has alot of great interiors). Music is great too, but the sound effects are okay. They get the job done, but nothing really stand out as much as some sound effects in a game do (racing gears advance actually had decent sound effects). Also, the Ferrari's are great. Ferrari's are basically the only car that is featured in this game, but since those cars are hardly ever seen in racing games, this game rules. These days, the only cars really seen are those damn rice rockets. There's a great selection, and of course, there is the legendary Enzo. The cars look great, and they are fun to drive. Not many racing games feature Ferrari's (Have no idea why though). Also, the game works well on the PSP. COntrols are great, load times are really great as well. So basically, this game runs fantastic on the PSP, and the format works really well. It may seem like I am just slapping this on to my review, but it's a tidbit that all PSP players want, to know if it works well on the PSP (as you know, too many sloppy ports hold back a majority of the games for getting great scores). I say that this is best for PSP. No questions asked. Too bad this game is overlooked, because it's a great game that reminds people what racing games are really about. Racing, powersliding, and having fun. Tuning just feels like a chore. If you like your racing games fun and down to the ground, you can't go wrong witht this fantastic game. PS don't think im bashing Forza. I like those technical racers because I liek reacing games, but most people are not very interested in tuning their cars. They want something that's fun. This is the game.
